Downtime

I haven’t really been doing much with any dolls lately, mostly I’ve been toying with the idea of selling most of them. I haven’t come to any conclusions about it yet, but at least a clothing/wig purge is in order, they’ve really piled up.

Lately most of my free time has been devoted to drawing, reading, and really just procrastinating. This autumn has gone by really quickly, and I feel like I have been sick a LOT. I had my appendix removed late October and have had a few flus as well.

I’ve also had some computer trouble in the form of sudden blue screens and slowness, which have been mostly solved. But I suppose I have to come to terms with the fact that 5-6 years is the lifespan of my computers.

The next time I post will probably be the end of the year summary. I’ll have to see about continuing this blog too, I very rarely update it anymore anyway.

Starting May

Hello!
A lot has happened since I last posted. I sold Marlene’s shell (iplehouse Raffine), gave faceups to both Souldoll Hari and Paw, and ordered a new doll.

First up, Raffine. I really loved how beautiful she was, but she was just too heavy and tough to handle for me. I sold her via Den of Angels to Italy, and she has a lovely new home and character there 🙂

In a moment of regret, I started looking for a new shell for Marlene’s character and ended up with Impldoll Azalea. She should do nicely. I haven’t ordered her yet, I need to save up some money. Marlene’s character and story is one of the better developed ones of my dolls, which is why I had a brief panic of selling her off. But I think this has been for the best.

 

A bit before that I gave faceups to both Haile (Hari) and Luc (Paw).

Something went wrong with their initial coats of sealant; I had sprayed them a few days early but the sealant was a bit soft and flaked off. I redid Haile’s face completely, but left Luc’s they way it was because I noticed it too late.

And Luc. I’m not too pleased with any of his faceup, so I’ll redo it the next time I break out my faceupping gear

The money I got from Raffine was supposed to go towards buying a new shell for Marlene or getting a body for my floating Hazy, but I couldn’t resist those horns and ears and little hooves…
So I pretty much sold an Iplehouse doll to gain an Iplehouse doll. It’s fine.
I ordered her on 29.4., we’ll see when I get her. Iplehouse have generally been really quick to ship.

Doll Year 2017 and Plans for 2018

I can’t believe it’s already the end of 2017! At the same time it feels like this year took forever and that the autumn has sped by.
This year I actually reached, at least in part, my goals of completing dolls and buying furniture etc for them instead of getting new dolls. Feels nice! And my doll plans seem to be a bit clearer for next year.

I’m so glad I got the Hazy head, I actually missed it when it was put for sale in a Finnish BJD-group, but it’s buyer sold it to me after they found out it didn’t fit their plans.

Well that was short. It was a nice head but not one for me.
I also put my Iplehouse Raffine up for sale and a feeler for my Dollshe Rey Lewis, but I’m in no hurry. I might not sell at all, depending on how their story develops.

I placed my order in June through Angelesque and I’m still waiting -_-‘
Apparently Souldoll have some problems with staffing, that’s the reason Carol gave me for the delay. I have no idea when she might arrive and I’m kind of bummed about it. I know 6 months isn’t that extreme when it comes to doll orders but it’s taking the title of longest wait from my previous record holder. (Dollshe Pure body, 5 months 2 weeks.)

I’ve seen some of these charts done, so I thought I’d do one myself

Next year I hope to dig deeper to my dolls characters and stories, and some more furniture would be nice. Joseph needs better, tailored clothes and Marlene could use new clothes too.
I’ve been eyeing a body for my hazy head, but it’s from Dollzone and I know they’re really slow…

Blog address changed

A little over a week ago I decided to change this blog’s address to jeimsdolls.wordpress.com because the old one had bothered me pretty much since I made it.
This decision might have been a mistake, since there might be some dead links I can’t remember and of course some people might have bookmarked the blog which might cause problems.

It’s still the same blog, just in a new place.

In other news I have clothes on the way for Joseph and I had some clothes delivered yesterday. They were really cheap and from eBay, something I had decided against ordering because they are usually low quality (and might have problematic origins)  – and they were bad. Wouldn’t buy again.

Tea in her (really big) overalls which had some really shoddy sewing in the back. Not slim mini size.

It’s been a quiet year with dolls. I’ve been having a size crisis (lol) and seriously thinking about how I want to continue the hobby. It feels like I haven’t really accomplished anything this year. But onwards!

My goal was to complete my existing dolls instead of buying more. I didn’t reach it! (But to be fair I had some complications, like my sewing machine catching fire, and us moving house.) I’m waiting for clothes for a few of my dolls and I have some ideas about styling others, so better luck this year.

Despite thinking of scaling my dolls down, I really love the Simply Divine Thomas head I have and I had to get a body for him when Dollshe was having a really good deal. I’ll probably keep one or two bigger dolls around and he’ll definitely be one of them.
I’ve been eyeing the Pipos Raoh for a while and caved in when I noticed they had a sale. We’ll see how I like it in person, it’s a 1/3 scale head again, not really in accordance with my wish to own smaller dolls.
And finally,  I was going to get some clothes for my SID girl anyway, so why not get the full $300 order amount so I can get a small discount… I fell in love with the Iplehouse Bull Terriers when I first saw them and seeing owner pictures only made me want one even more. I’m weak. Especially when it comes to dogs. No other excuses.

The list is arranged by how much I want the doll.
I’ve been waiting for the Miningenue preorder to open. (But since it didn’t I sort of used most of the money I had saved for that…)
FID Raffine is on the list because I’d like to focus on ~1/4 size dolls and I really like the FID woman body. If I decide I want her I’ll probably try to make a trade with someone, offering my SID Raffine in exchange. Or just sell the big lady.
Narae is another preorder I actually missed by a few days.
Rest of the list is sort of a “would be nice if I had a lot of spare money”.

 

So, yeah. Here we are at the beginning again. My goal this year is to be more efficient with my money, and actually save more in advance. Maybe no new dolls… Or at least sell some old ones if I decide to get any.

Faceup and doll news

It’s been a while, so just a quick update what’s going on doll-wise. 🙂

The finnish doll forum Hartsilapset has been down for almost two weeks and I really miss it. The forum isn’t insanely active, but it’s a nice way to see what other people are up to, great for reference and help, good place to sell and buy stuff, and great for keeping a database of my dolls. I hope it’ll come back eventually. 😦

On Wednesday I’ll pay the last half of Withdoll Adriana. I’m excited! I know she won’t arrive for a while but I don’t mind waiting. I wasn’t supposed to buy any new dolls this year, but seeing as she was limited I couldn’t help myself. I got her in gray resin and she’ll be my first gray doll. I’m planning to make her into a robot of some sort – since one of my dolls builds androids I thought it might be fun to actually have one.
The other reason for getting her was that Withdoll female bodies are one of the prettiest in my opinion and I really wanted one. We’ll see how I’ll like her.

Doll stuff with my old dolls: I gave Sorin a new faceup. I’ve been toying with the idea of selling him because he is just so big and heavy that I find him a bit hard to handle. Maybe a new faceup will help me makeup my mind (or at least I got some practice).
When I took his eyes out I noticed that his blue eyes have yellowed a lot. The whites are really yellow, but it doesn’t show much when he’s wearing the eye. I might still change both eyes to be the same color if it’s too distracting.

Oh yeah and I did a quick test to see if my mock up of Dey would work in real life.Not really :D. The wig has to go. And the eyes are actually different ones, since the green ones are really small. Heh. I don’t know what I’ll do with him.

 

I still need to get clothes for everyone… Slowly but surely I guess.

 

Again not a match :D…

My luck with hybrids appears to be nonexistent. First the Akagidoll and Simply Divine, and now LittleRebel and April Story. After 5 months of waiting I finally got the body today.

Proportion wise the April Story Senior Body and my LittleRebel Aleksander are a decent match, but Aleksander is a pinkish normal skin and April Story is very yellow. I’ll see if I can blush the head to match but I’m losing faith. I don’t know what company would be a match for him.

I decided to put the Akagidoll body for sale, since the match is pretty horrific. I’ll try to hunt down a Ringdoll body for Joseph, they should make a stark white resin. So if anyone is interested in buying an Akagidoll 72cm body in WS (creamy white) for about 350€, send me a message!

I’ll take pictures later, I just got back from work and really need to eat.

EDIT: Here’s a quick phone picture, I’m sorry for the messy background. The match looks considerably less obvious in the pictures, so I think I’ll be able to pull it off with some blushing and clothes.

One thing that bothers me a bit is that he has the veiniest hands. 😀 His character is more on the androgynous side and those huge bulging mitts don’t really suit him. Oh well.

Akagidoll body is not a match

I just received the Akagidoll body in white skin. Except… It isn’t white. Not in the slightest. From DoA and some picture references I understood that Akagidoll white skin would be absolutely paper white (or at least very  close).

I don’t think I have been sent the wrong body either, since Angelesque got 2 Akagidolls in the shipment and in her pictures one was clearly normal skin and the other much paler. I chalked it up as lighting when I saw the pictures. In real life the color is close to my Dollshe fresh skin, which is a quite pale yellowish color.

I’m so disappointed! 😦
I don’t know if I should just try to sell the white skin Thomas I have and buy another one in bone resin (but I have absolutely no money at all at the moment and I’m sure I’ll lose a lot of money doing this since the market for dolls is so slow).
I could try to blush his face to match the body but even then I’m not sure it would look right, since I am no master at face ups.

I was prepared that it wouldn’t be a 100% match but I was hoping for something better.  (I’ll post photos of the color match when I get the energy to take them, right now I just feel like I don’t want to touch my dolls at all…) UGHhhhghhgghhhhhggh

2016 doll plans

Christmas came and went, and now it’s already 2016! Happy New Year to everyone, hope this year will be a good one. 2015 sure was packed full of excitement for me. I moved in with my girlfriend, I got 2 whole dolls, 2 heads (bodies are still on their way), we got a cat (his name is Gandalf, or Ganu for short, and he is 4 years old) and I graduated school. I am now a registered radiographer.

In my last post, I talked about that April Story body for my LittleRebel Aleksander. I ended up ordering one on 30.11.2015. A little over a month of waiting behind me, and I’m sure a few more ahead of me.

The body for my Simply Divine Thomas should be arriving any day now, Angelesque sent it on 29.12.2015. I suspect it will be on Thursday, the 7th when I have a job interview (I’m super nervous about it too). I hope I’ll be home when it arrives.

I also ordered a Raffine on SID body from Iplehouse when she became available in the winter event. I wasn’t supposed to get any more dolls, but her face is so perfect! She will be Joseph’s sister. I hope 10cm isn’t too big of a height difference for them. I’m trying to forget about her, since I’m sure it’ll be a long time until she arrives. (I know Iplehouse promises 60 days but I won’t count on it.)

So, for 2016 my doll plans are:

• Wait for the Akagidoll body to arrive (early January)
• Wait for the April Story body to arrive (February-ish)
• Wait for Raffine to arrive (March and beyond)
• Give a faceup to everyone who doesn’t have one and redo others
• Clothes and wigs and eyes for everyone
• Take more photographs
• No more dolls! At least until the end of the year. I really want to  enjoy my existing dolls and do more with them

Another, more casual goal is to give a better name to this blog 😀 “Doll Time” was really supposed to be a temporary place holder until I thought of a better name, and it kind of stuck. Looking forward to a good year!
EDIT: I decided to recycle the name of my pretty much dead art blog, “Waste of Paint”. It’s the name of a Bright Eyes song which was quite important to me in my teen years, and it perfectly describes my attitude towards my attempts at doing creative things.

Body problems

Right now there’s a nice discount event going on with April Story, and from what I understand their resin is a nice match to LittleRebel. So… Dey might get a body from April Story.

I originally thought I’d like the Popodoll 68cm body, but I don’t know about the resin match or the proportions. One body I’d really like for him is Feeple65, but they are quite expensive and come with heads that I have zero interest in. Welp, I have a couple of days left to make up my mind.

I updated the “Dolls” page on the blog. Maybe at some point I’ll take more uniform pictures of all my dolls, when they all have their bodies and clothes and eyes and… everything.
